The Tape Riter system was used in large office blocks as a tape based dictation system.

The system used full size reels in a metal case that could be lifted off the tape recorder that had recorded the work and placed on another machine and played by a typist who would transcribe the tape.

The Tape Riter was introduced by Hartley ca. 1954. It is based on the American recording and transcribing unit with the same name by the Permoflux Corporation, who introduced their Tape Riter model already in 1950.
