Invalid's plate with reservoir for hot water, English, late 19th century

The pewter base of this plate reservoir can be filled with hot water in order to keep food warm. Filled up via the screw cap on the side of the plate, this device is also known as an invalid’s plate and could be used in the hospital or home.
