Silver Havdalah box

Silver Havdalah spice box, cylindrical open-work body mounted on circular base and surmounted by a pennant, engraved with rampant lions and tablets with Hebrew characters. 230 mm x 58 mm diameter. Used in the Jewish Havdalah (seperation) cemomony marking the end of the Sabbath, in which such a box would have been filled with sweet smelling spices and passed amongst the participants. 19th century.
