Token, copper, 28mm diameter. Dundee halfpenny, 1796. (DH Angus 16). Infirmary founded 1794 Issuer Unknown, 1796, ½d. Obverse Front of a large building: ‘Dundee halfpenny, 1796; Infirmary founded 1794. I.W.I. Design’. Reverse View of a harbour with a three-masted vessel lying next to a wharf. Also on the left, just above the wharf, are two glass works cones emitting smoke: ‘Mare et commercium colimus’ and Arms, Crest, Supporters and Motto (Dei Donum) of Dundee. Notes The infirmary was actually founded in 1793 and opened in 1798.
