Token, copper, 29mm diameter. Middlesex token, London Corresponding Society, 1795. (DH Mddx 286). Issuer London Corresponding Society, 1795. Obverse Fable of the bundle of sticks and ‘London Corresponding Society’. Reverse Flying dove carrying an olive branch and ‘United for reform of Parliament’. Notes The Society, founded in 1792, was one of a number formed in the late eighteenth century to spread doctrines similar to those in revolutionary France. The Society corresponded with other like-minded groups at home and abroad. The Corresponding Act of 1798 crushed all such radical societies.
