Early Crompton paper weight, Crompton & Co Ltd. 1895. Metal, overpainted black; 69mm diameter. In the form of a medallion, issued by Cromptons' to depict obverse, the class of works plant used in 1878 when the company R. E. Crompton & Co was formed at Arc Works, Chelmsford; inset, representations of medals awarded at Paris exhibition 1878; and, on reverse, in 1895 when the piece was issued; inset, representation of nine other exhibition medals; dated and stamped with illustrations of the works and contemporary electrical equipment
