Acmade high speed rotating prism camera, made in limited numbers (less than ten) for the ARDE (Armament Research and Development Establishment), Fort Halstead, West Kent, and RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment), Farnborough, for rocket, missiles and aircraft trials, British (date c. 1950?).

The Acmade high speed rotating prism camera was manufactured in limited numbers in England in 1950 by Acmade Limited.

This camera was made for the ARDE (Armament Research and Development Establishment), Fort Halstead, West Kent, and RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment), Farnborough, for recording rocket, missile and aircraft trials. The camera was capable of filming at several thousand frames per second. The rotating prism camera allowed higher frame rates whilst placing less pressure on the film or transport mechanism. The film moves past a rotating prism - each revolution of the prism ‘paints’ the same number of frames onto the film as there are faces on the prism.
