Egg shaped mineral water bottle, 19th century. Bottle glass is unrefined glass, dark green or brown in colour, and has been used since the early 17th century for making bottles. The colour results from traces of iron found in the sand used for the batch. Sometimes iron oxide is added to darken the colour.
