Thermo-couple platinum, platinum medium laboratory pattern yards of Peakes's patent compensating lead for connecting thermocouple to record on indicator, by Cambridge Scientific Instrument Co., Ltd, 1914

This instrument is intended for use in measuring temperatures up to 1000c., which are registered by a type of recorder or indicator connected to this thermo-couple.

The thermo-couple consists of two long parallel wires (one platinum and one platinum iridium), insulated from each other by porcelain at the upper ends, but connected at their lower ends. This is all enclosed in a long porcelain tube, with the wires leading to the two terminals at the upper end.
