Aircraft receiver Type 1082

Aircraft receiver Type 1082 developed by RAE from 1935. Saw action during the Battle of Britain.

Designed for use in aircraft for the reception of R/T, CW and MCW. In RAF use c.1937-1941, the receiver is a five valve TRF receiver with direction finding capabilities. The valves are 2-volt directly heated battery types and high tension supply is from a 120v dry battery. The frequency band is covered by 14 pairs of plug in coils and to the aerial circuits of same can be attached a direction finding loop, as shewn.

CW reception is possible by adjusting the reaction control until oscillation occurs. This is detected by touching the "Oscillation Test Point" with a wet finger when it is apparent that the receiver is in a state of oscillation. Adjusting the reaction control to a point just below oscillation point also produces the maximum receiver sensitivity.
