Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway 1st and 2nd Composite built 1834
Railway carriage, four wheeled, 2nd Class, Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway, built in 1834, to carry 16 passengers. Length over buffers: 17 ft. These wooden-bodied coaches are rare witnesses to early Victorian travel. The carriage wheels were cast iron and frequently broke, including on one occasion in 1864 when passengers were taken to their destination on the locomotive. The Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway pioneered excursion trains and in April 1840 ran a special service to take passengers to see two murderers hanged at Bodmin Gaol.
