Great Western Railway diesel railcar No. 4 is an early example of the GWR railcar fleet. The GWR first introduced railcars in 1933 and they were very successful, with subsequent designs continuing to be used well into the 1960s, by which time they were superseded by the new British Rail DMUs.
No.4 has a buffet counter inside and sports a streamlined design which is typical of the style of the time and earned the railcars the nickname "flying bananas".
