Drawing, crayon and wash, preparatory sketch for British Industries, Coal by George Clausen, about 1924. Depicts four miners walking home at the end of their shift, with colliery pithead and winding gear and other buildings in the background. Smoke billows from engine house chimneys, set against a cloudy sky. Signed by the artist at bottom right. Framed and glazed. Produced in preparation for one of a series of sixteen posters, commissioned by the London, Midland & Scottish railway and created by members of the Royal Academy.
