Painting, oil on canvas, portrait of William Cawkwell, by Hubert Herkomer, 1889. Depicts Cawkwell, with white hair and a long beard without a moustache. He is wearing a dark suit, and is seated in a chair. His right arm is resting on an arm of the chair, his left is in his lap. At his right hand is a basket containing rolls of plans. Signed "HH 89" at left, above the rolls of drawings. Unframed. Cawkwell was joint deputy Chairman, then General Manager of the London & North Western Railway from 1858 to 1874. Commissioned by the Company for display at the Half Yearly Meeting Room at Euston, the painting cost a total of £118, (£18 for the frame, £50 for the engraving and £50 second instalment)
