Painting, watercolour, News Theatre, Waterloo (re-opened after being blitzed), by Helen McKie, November 1942. Depicts the entrance to the cinema at the Southern Railway's Waterloo station. Servicemen and fashionably dressed women are either entering the cinema or walking past on the station concourse. An ARP (Air Raid Precaution) warden stands at left, while at right an elderly gentleman looks at his watch. On top of the kiosk at the entrance to the cinema are figures of the Walt Disney characters Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. Signed by the artist at bottom right, title at bottom. Image size 375mm x 525mm. Frame size 550mm x 715mm.
