Poster, London Midland & Scottish Railway, Caernarvon Castle by Norman Wilkinson, 1929. View of the Castle from the water. Text: Dominated by its mighty castle, Caernarvon lies today in peaceful seclusion facing the quiet waters of the Menai Strait. But it has a history as stirring as that of any fortified place in our islands. The first Edward built it and held it for many years against the Welsh, foremost amongst them, Owen Glendower and hosts: and it played its part again in the Parliamentary Wars of the 17th Century. The castle is in an excellent state of preservation, and is one of the most glorious monuments to Feudalism in the Country. Format: double royal. Dimensions: 40 x 25 inches, 1016 x 635 mm.
