The Light-Six is noteworthy partly for the 4-speed gearbox with synchromesh on third and top, a feature pioneered by Vauxhall in 1932, and for its low price and consequent success for Vauxhall. On day of its launch, June 14th 1933, 250 Light-Sixes were driven from the Luton factory – an unprecedented achievement in the British motor industry. The success of the Light-Six was huge for Vauxhall. By the end of 1933 40% of all 14hp registrations were Vauxhalls and nearly 10,000 cars had left the Luton factory, this figure doubling a year later. Production ended in 1938 with the introduction of unitary construction to Britain.
