The single crank compound steam engine was introduced for road propulsion in 1889. Engines were subsequently built to this design with various cylinder capacities.

Steam was supplied by a locomotive type boiler at a pressure of 140 lbs/sq.in. This model is based on the Burrell traction engine having cylinder bores of 6 inches diameter and a stroke of 10 inches.
