Model articulated girder wagon, Great Western Railway

Model railway wagon, 1:16 scale, Great Western Railway, special articulated girder wagon "Pollen", to carry 120 tons, loaded with 100 ton gun.

This model represents a special wagon built for the conveyance of long and heavy objects such as bridge girders. Four six-wheeled trucks are used, closely coupled together by central links with central curved buffers which permit the trucks to articulate. The trucks have plate side frames connected together by transverse plates so as to form open boxes with houses for the wheels. A spring is placed above each axlebox. The centres of the trucks are provided with turntables which support the ends of two massive flat girders, while the load is mounted on pivoted cradles placed at or near the mid-points. This means the trucks can pass freely round curves without distorting the load.
