Redifon G40 high-frequency radio transmitter, c. 1947

The Redifon G40 radio transmitter was designed for ground/aircraft communications services, navigational radio beacons for airways and sea routes, and for broadcasting on medium and short waves. It could produce an output of 600-800 watts Continuous Wave and 500 watts carrier, maximum, Modulated continuous wave (MCW) or telephony.

The G40 radio transmitter was made by Redifon Ltd, the name given c.1948 to the principal manufacturing company of the Rediffusion group. Redifon was located at Broomhill Road, London SW18 from its renaming in 1948 through to 1980. The company was known for manufacturing mainly naval, later flight telecommunication equipment, later flight simulators and air traffic control equipment.
