Model, scale 1:48, Ferranti's Deptford Power Station 1891
This model (scale 1:48, made in 1958) shows the electricity generating station that Sebastian Ziani de Ferranti (1864-1930) started to build at Deptford, on the outskirts of London, but did not complete. Ferranti was one of the first to suggest building large power stations outside cities, where land was cheap, and transmitting the electricity at high voltage to sub-stations near the users A fire at one of the sub-stations and other problems led to the company, the London Electricity Supply Corporation, terminating Ferranti's contract and scaling down his plans.
