Model scale 1:8, of a Surrey farm wagon

The influence of a countryside with few hedges and gateways can be seen in the design of this wagon. As a result of the wagon's straight sides it had a small turning lock. Having the wheels on a wide track compensated for this to some extent and reduced the risk of overturning when harvesting on hilly ground. The "dog-stick" acted as a brake if the horses stopped to rest on a hill. Tying the rope roller to the rear ladder was peculiar to this 19th century style wagon.
