Depicts Grierson with long greying hair and extensive side whiskers. He is wearing a dark morning suit with a red tie, and is seated with his legs crossed. His right arm rests on a table next to some books, with his left on papers in his lap. A pair of spectacles hangs from his waistcoat. Unframed.
