Hand held solar viewer with dark glass filter

Made:
1750-1799 in England

Hand held solar viewer with dark glass filter and lignum vitae wood mount and turned handle, probably English, mid to late 18th century. Scratched inscriptions for, '1854' and '28 May 1900' suggests it has been used to view solar eclipses on these dates.
