Pair of alcohol and mercury Fahrenheit thermometers, by Richard Adie, Liverpool, 1835-1875. Scales range (-70 to +70 degrees) and (-30 to +110 degrees), respectively.
This pair of fine liquid-in-glass Fahrenheit thermometers were made by Richard Adie of Liverpool. There were four Adies; the father, Alexander, had sons named John, Richard and Patrick. Richard traded in Liverpool from 1835 to 1875. The scales on the thermometers extend from minus 80 degrees Fahrenheit on one to plus 115 degrees Fahrenheit on the other. This range is more than adequate for measuring most weathers.
