Queen Anne's Bronze standard wine gallon, 1707 (8" x 6 1/4")

Wine Gallon measure, dated 1707, was made during the reign of Queen Anne of England (1702-1714). Made as a volume standard, commonly called the Queen Anne Gallon, it appeared as an alternative measure for liquid measurement in conjunction with the existing Winchester dry measures. This confusion was removed in 1824 with the Imperial Measures Act that outlawed both existing volume measures and replaced them with the Imperial Gallon. These now redundant measures continue to be used in the United States for wet and dry commodities.
