Engraving, entitled 'The body of a Young Man Taken Out Of The Water Apparently Dead In The Sight Of The Distressed Parents'. Engraved by Robert Pollard, after painting by Robert Smirke. Published 1787.

Presented to SMG by Dr J Russell Scott with the accompanying note: 'These two engravings were made in 1787 by Robert Pollard from paintings by Robert Smirke. They were presented by the Royal Humane Society to one of their co-founders, Dr William Hawes. His daughter Sophia married the Reverend Russell Scott in 1790. The engravings have been handed down in the family and hung in my father's study when he was Headmaster of Cranbrook School, Kent'. Oil paintings by Smirke of both prints are in the Government Art Collection.
