Human skin, tattooed with fouled anchor, French, 1850-1900. Tattoo - black outlined fouled anchor (traditionally the insignia of the Chief Petty Officer), hand applied by single dot technique, clearly apparent in some areas where the dots don't join up to form a line. Amateur design and execution. Skin - Yellow-cream colouration with browner edges, very thin cross-section, triangular shape cut to frame the tattoo design.
