This printed sheet, with hand coloured engravings, shows the excitement that surrounded the laying of the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable in 1866. It describes the cable laying in detail, and includes engravings of the cable and of the 'Great Eastern', the ship used to lay it. A very similar version had been published the previous year at the time of the failed attempt to lay a cable.
