Tinder-pistol contained in a handsome rectangular box of brass (length 7 1/4 ins), with mechanism by means of which, when the pistol-action is fixed, a candle is lighted and raised upright from the interior; trigger in form of a monkey eating an apple or other fruit; a small drawer which pulls out from one end is intended to hold a spare tinder and sulphur-matches; surface of box engraved with duelling, hunting, and other scenes; inscribed on top "Francz Lewinski in Chlumecz" [Bohemia] and "Anno "1725"; early 18th century.
