A Lighter (length 3 3/4 ins), in form resembling a pocket-pencil, of brass; barrel contains a cord of loose wool (doubtless steeped in nitre) set at intervals with amorces (or lumps of a yellow phosphorus composition); one of the amorces, when pulled to end of tube and rubbed with the top of the detachable head of the pencil, which is covered with rough shark's skin, ignites and sets fire to the wool; stamped on side "Helbronner, Patent" (no. 13,872 of 1851); with it are four woollen refills. England.
