The photograph shows members of the Adams family about to board their chartered train to travel from Halstead to Deal in Kent.

In 1893, Adams purchased land on the sea-front at Deal and employed a builder to build a large house. The family already had their main house at Halstead but travelled by this chartered train between the two.
