The photograph was taken at the Thames Ironworks in Blackwall, London. The 'Shikishima' was launched in November 1898. The ship took part in many battles, including the blockade of Port Arthur during Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905), before serving as a training ship until 1947 when she was broken up.
