A photograph entitled 'Carnarvon Castle', taken by R Murray in 1868. The photograph shows ships moored alongside the castle. Carnarvon, or Caernarfon, Castle was built by Edward I (1239-1307) in 1283 as part of his plan to surround Wales with fortifications to subdue the Welsh. The photograph is from the Amateur Photographic Association Prize album for 1868.

The photograph shows ships moored alongside the castle. Carnarvon, or Caernarfon, Castle was built by Edward I (1239-1307) in 1283 as part of his plan to surround Wales with fortifications to subdue the Welsh.

The photograph is from the Amateur Photographic Association Prize album for 1868. The Amateur Photographic Association was formed in May 1861. Each year, members provided the Association with negatives for printing in exchange for prints from other members.
