CPS Emitron camera control rack, OB version, manufactured by EMI Electronics Limited, first used for outside broadcasts from the 1948 Olympic Games. The unit comprises of: 257848 - Picture & Waveform monitor; 399450 - Camera Control Unit type 4498C; 193750 - Low Tension power supply type 4469B; 288149 - High Tension power supply type 4470B; Picture & waveform monitor type 4496A.

CPS Emitron broadcast cameras were attached to control units containing picture and waveform monitors and power supplies. Long cables stopped all this cumbersome equipment getting in the way. This unit was produced specifically for outside broadcasts using a lighter frame casing. It is possibly the only surviving example of a CPS Emitron camera outside broadcast control rack.

Extensive infrastructure was installed at Wembley to televise the Olympic Games. The Palace of the Arts was adapted to become the BBC Broadcasting Centre, housing the Central Control Room and Production Control Room. Mobile Control Rooms (MCR) in specially fitted out vans had been used for regular outside broadcasts since 1937. Camera feeds from the Stadium were fed to the Production Control Room and from the Empire Pool to an MCR, where the signals were controlled from these racks.

The unit comprises: 257848 - Picture & Waveform monitor; 399450 - Camera Control Unit type 4498C; 193750 - Low Tension power supply type 4469B; 288149 - High Tension power supply type 4470B; Picture & waveform monitor type 4496A.
