The image shows a sloping hill through which a deep cut path winds, forking at a glade of trees, one path veering to the left into the trees and the other right over a bridge and into another glad of trees further to the right and in the background of the image. In front of these trees, atop the grassy bank sits a wooden structure with pulleys and wheels which is being turned by two horses. Workmen are standing by them. To the right of it at the very edge of the image some half-built brick walls sit parallel to one another. A couple walk arm in arm along the path, positioned before the fork. Beyond the hill and glades of trees flat fields stretch out to the horizon, with trees lining the field edges.
