Coil condenser probably used by Edward Frankland at Owen's College chemistry laboratory, Manchester, c.1855.
This apparatus has a tube which fits over an exhaust from a reagent bottle and goes through an airlock over mercury and in to one of two coils. Condensed liquid would then have been forced out at the top. The mercury airlock ensures that the gas travels.
