Ferranti cathode ray tube store

Ferranti Ltd cathode ray tube store

Cathode-ray tube store Ferranti MK1 Computer. Originally developed by Professor F.C. Williams of Manchester University, this Williams Store was used in the first commercially produced computer in Europe. The capacity of the store is 1290 digits arranged in a 64 x 20 matrix on the tube face. In ordinary CRTs the dots on the screen faded quickly because the electrostatic charge leaked away. Williams and Kilburn discovered a means by which the image could be continually renewed.
