Throughout the history of consumer electrics, there have always been devices and gadgets to change the performance of fittings to suit individual tastes or fix little problems as they arose. This gadget, made in about 1950, allows a bayonet cap lightbulb to be fitted about 70mm proud of its socket. This might be done to push more light out of a fitting or because a hot bulb was causing damage.
