Press Association photograph titled 'Sir Laurence at ease for Garrick portrait'. Caption on back reads: Relaxed in a shirt open at the neck and with a Garrick Club tie, Sir Laurence Olivier is seen with Mr. Bernard Hailstone during a sitting at the artist's studio in Glebe Place, Chelsea, London, for a portrait to be presented to the Garrick Club. The portrait in the picture is one of two from which a choice shall be made (the other shows Sir Laurence in a similar pose but with a pair of spectacles in the left hand). "As a member of the club, I regard this as the greatest honour the Garrick could pay me," said Sir Laurence.

Mr. Hailstone, a prominent member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, was the last artist for whom Sir Winston Churchill sat at Chartwell. He has recently been in the United States and Canada, where he painted a number of well-known people, including Sir Paul Mellon, head of the Washington National Gallery.
