Rolex 'Oyster Perpetual' rotor self-winding wrist-watch, lever escapement, in steel case with glass in back, Montres Rolex SA, Geneva, Switzerland, 1931

The Rolex 'Oyster Perpetual', introduced in 1931, incorporated a self-winding mechanism that became the standard form for all subsequent automatic wristwatches. A semi-circular rotor weight revolves fully in either direction to wind the mainspring.
