Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service

Originally formed in 1974 and known as the Greater Manchester County Fire Service, it changed it's name to Fire and Rescue Service after new legislation was introduced, The Fire and Rescue Services Act 2004.

The service had originally been administered by Greater Manchester County Council until this was abolished in 1986 after which it has been jointly administered by a joint authority of the ten Metropolitan Borough Councils of Greater Manchester.
