Founded in Salford in 1863 by Laban Baxendale and his future brother-in-law, Alfred Innes. In 1892, the company moved to Shudehill Mill (commonly known as Arkwright's Mill) in Miller Street, Manchester. The mill was destroyed in the 1940 Manchester Blitz.
