Fowler, William Henry 1854 - 1932


Born in Oldham in 1854 he served his Apprenticeship at Platt Brothers & Co. He entered the Drawing Office and after further study at evening classes he was appointed a Junior Draughtsman at the Manchester Steam Users Association, in 1872. He was awarded a Whitworth Scholarship and attended Owens College, Manchester.

He re-entered the Manchester Steam Users Association as an Assistant Engineer and eventually became Works Manager at Chadderton Ironworks. He also practised as a consulting engineer as well as founding the Scientific Publishing Company. Amongst the publications he was responsible for was The Mechanical Engineers Pocket Book.
