Educated in Germany and Russia as an engineer and draughtsman.

1883 - started work at Samuel Watt & Co, London as a draughtsman.

1888 - won a medallion from the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce for his model of a fire engine.

1890 - won the Champion Gold Medal at Crystal Palace for a model of a fire engine.

1896 - moved from Peckham to Wallington.

1911 - moved to Keynsham, Somerset
