Leyland Motors Limited 1907 - 1968

The Lancashire Steam Motor Company (founded 1896 by the Sumner and Spurrier families) was renamed Leyland Motors Limited in 1907 and was a vehicle manufacturer of lorries and buses, though also produced cars and the Cromwell and Centurian tanks; after the second world war Leyland aquired a number of different companies, including Albion Motors, Standard Triumph and Rover Cars; Donald Stokes took over as head of the company in 1964 and in 1968 it merged with British Motor Holdings (BMH) to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC).
