Howard Ricketts has been a dealer in arms and armour since 1972 and has expert knowledge in Islamic, Indian Moghul and medieval works of art. He and his wife, Jane Ricketts, are private collectors. The Ricketts Collection at the National Science and Media Museum is drawn from their private collection of early photography.
