Mr Stowers joined the Science Museum in 1930, became Keeper of the Dept of Mechanical and Civil Engineering (also known as Dept 6) in 1950 and retired in 1963. He was also a long-standing and active member of the Newcomen Society (he was the Dickinson Memorial Lecturer in 1962).
