Hardy and friends formed a parliamentary reform group called the London Corresponding Society.

May 1793 - 6,000 members of the public signed a petition supporting the Society. Later that year, Hardy and other men were arrested, sent to the Tower of London, and charged with high treason. However, Hardy was found not guilty.
