Founded 1910 by Edwin Elliot (1878-1968); originally established for the import and manufacture of imitation precious stones and merchandise for the jewelry and fancy goods trade (this work was still part of the company's business at least into the 1950s); also produced hand-coloured miniature photographs for use in jewelry, broaches, pendants etc; collaborated with sister company British Optical Lens Company (BOLCo) in producing spectacles; during first world war diversified range of photographs and also become involved in plastic (casein and Bakelite) moulding; during the 1920s and 1930s Elliott's made Bakelite and plastic bodies and parts for many of the Coronet cameras, including the Midget and Vogue, and BOLCo made many of the lenses; also produced their own camera, the VP Twin, which was sold through Woolworth's between 1935 and the late 1950s; during the second world war produced antigas shields and a periscope for amphibious tanks; floated as company in 1950; company went into receivership in 1982 and was bought by Reed International Group in 1983, name changed to Elliott Moulders (Electronics) Ltd.
